[USPRwire, Mon May 14 2007] The New York Sun has acquired LatestPolitics.com enhancing the Sun’s scoop-oriented and issue-packed coverage of politics on the Internet, the newspaper announced today.

Ryan Sager, the Sun’s online editor, and Josh Gerstein, the newspaper’s national correspondent, will edit and write www.LatestPolitics.com. In addition to highly competitive coverage in the run up to what is going to be one of the most closely watched elections in American history, www.LatestPolitics.com will offer the Sun’s rapidly growing family of online advertisers a new opportunity to reach one of the most upscale and sophisticated audiences on the Web.

www.LatestPolitics.com will provide:
• Detailed, up-to-the-minute political news
• Original blogs, opinion, analysis, and writing from leading reporters and columnists
• In-depth special features on the art and science of politics
• Video and other multimedia content
• Latest Politics Indices, a tool designed to allow readers to track the ups and downs of the major candidates for president in 2008. Currently, there are two indices, one for the campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, the other for the campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination. The indices will take an average of all of the major, national, and public polls in a given month and plot them over time to track the candidates’ standings.

“The 2008 presidential campaign will see a greater role than ever before in history for a truly multimedia Web in defining the coverage, and we aim to be at the forefront of that,” Mr. Sager, 27, the creator of www.LatestPolitics.com, said. “And it’s an exceptionally exciting election for the Big Apple – particularly because New Yorkers are playing such an outsized role in the campaign, with Senator Clinton leading among the Democrats, Mayor Giuliani among the Republicans, and Mayor Bloomberg exploring a possible independent bid for the White House.”

Mr. Sager, a member of the founding staff of the Sun between 2003 and 2005, spent two years on the editorial board of the New York Post and most recently published a highly-acclaimed book, “The Elephant in the Room,” on the future of the Republican Party. Mr. Gerstein, the Sun’s national correspondent, is a former White House correspondent for ABC News.
