New Defense market report from Business Monitor International: "Argentina Defence & Security Report 2016"
[USPRwire, Mon Nov 09 2015] Argentina remains locked in a condition of economic malaise. President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner will leave office at the end of 2015 and at the time of writing in early 2015 there is no significant prospect of the country's economy improving. Should this sluggish economic performance continue, as is expected, it could have serious consequences for the struggling domestic defence sector.
Argentina's armed forces have, for several years, maintained a long list of requirements which are necessary to modernise their armed forces. These requirements are not tied to endowing the army, navy and air force with a future-proof posture which will enable them to fight the conflicts of tomorrow and prevail with technological superiority, but aimed at bringing them up to a standard that would be considered modern and capable for today's conflicts. At present, the economic prospects of the country ensure that these requirements remain aspirations, with no immediate prospect, that they will be fulfilled in any meaningful quantity.

At the security level, while Argentina's relations with its immediate neighbours and with other Latin American nations are improving, relations remained strained with the United Kingdom over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands. There is no immediate prospect of this dispute being solved, given that it has reached an almost intractable level; the UK accepts that the islanders wish to remain British, Argentina will not settle for anything short of the islands being placed under the country's full control. The military situation between the two countries will continue to remain tense throughout 2015 with each country's move, such as the procurement of new platforms, or the movement of military assets within the vicinity of the islands, bringing a corresponding response.
