[USPRwire, Thu Apr 22 2010] Applying to a modeling agency is really exciting for all new and aspiring models. But with agencies seeing thousands of applications it’s important to know their preferred methods of submission and make sure that all the right details are sent. Here, modeling agency Models Direct offers some things to consider when putting yourself forward to modeling agencies.
What should be in your application?
Some agencies, Models Direct included, will provide you with a form to fill in about yourself. If there isn’t a similar form you should submit the following information.
- Contact details. At the very least you should include your phone number, but you can include your mailing and email addresses as well.
- Statistics. The agency definitely needs to know your stats, especially if you’re intending to do fitting or fashion modeling, which will require you to wear sample clothing. Women should include their bust, waist and hip measurements, while men should provide their suit jacket size and waist measurements. You should also state your height, eye color, hair color, nationality, dress and shoe size.
- Resume. Keep the information on your resume brief. You should briefly mention any professional modeling, acting or performance experience that you have.
- Models Direct work with clients across the world but this is not the case with all agencies in America and it is possible that they will only take on models from their local area. If this is the case, you probably shouldn’t apply if you don’t intend to move to this area.
Pictures
It’s a common misconception that you need professional photos to apply to an agency. Remember, even top agencies can make their decisions based on a simple Polaroid. Here are some tips.
- You should submit photos that have been taken specifically for applying to the agency. It doesn’t matter if these were taken on a digital camera at home, but they should include at least a headshot and a full body shot.
- Pictures should be appropriate to the type of modeling and modeling agency that you’re applying for. For example, editorial, commercial, glamour etc.
- Make sure that the photos are the right size, especially if submitting by email.
Submitting by email
Not all agencies will accept submissions by email due to virus or spam checkers or simply finding physical applications easier to deal with. On the other hand it could be a simple application form such as Models Direct’s. If you are unsure about the preferred method of submission, call the agency to check.
Submitting by post
If you are submitting your application by post, include all the information mentioned above in a clear and easy-to-read format. Put your name, stats and contact information on each of your photos so the agency will know who you are if they’re separated from the rest of your application.
Phone
Models Direct suggest calling the agency if you have any questions about applying. This means you will get an instant response, rather than waiting around for email replies, and realize the most benefit your application.
