This is largely due to the fact that the iPad was the first tablet to provide enough added benefits to encourage consumers to want to buy one.

Retail volume sales of computers and peripherals are poised to slump further over the forecast period, mainly because there are no specific product launches expected with the potential to rejuvenate the otherwise mature category. Computers is expected to record negative volume growth rates over the forecast period as the category is suffering from the competition coming from smartphones as the difference between tablets and smartphones is diminishing due to recent increases screen sizes in smartphones. As 45% of smartphones sold in the Netherlands in 2020 two have a screen size equal to or larger than 5.5 inches, more tasks for which consumers traditionally used a laptop or tablet are expected to be carried out on smartphones.
